Lake Charles Commercial Auto Insurance — Previous Article summary.
Hal Dingledorfer is an owner operator and one who takes pride on getting his loads to their destination on time — regardless of the weather conditions. Fortunately, Hal tends to stay in the south so he avoids most of the snow and icy conditions that are so common in the north during winter time, but upon occasion he finds himself driving in stormy conditions.
Hal’s latest scheduled run is taking him through one heck of a storm, in fact it’s the worst he can remember. Most of the drivers on the highway are pulling over trying to wait out the worst part as the storm hopefully passes by soon.
Hal powers through the storm. He needs to make his scheduled delivery on time. As Hal passes by the next mileage marker he can barely make out the sign because of the torrential downpour, he’s almost sure it’s 151 so that means he is only 20 miles away from his destination. Now that we are caught up, lets find out what happens next.
Insurance Coverage Scenario — Part 6
Part of the highway veers sharply to the right about a mile and a half past mileage marker 151 and as soon as Hal makes that sharp turn what he sees scattered on both sides of the highway causes him to immediately slams on his brakes and he quickly pulls over into the emergency lane.
As Hal’s truck comes to a complete stop he glances down briefly to flick on his emergency lights switch.
Hal then opens his glove compartment box grabbing his flash light and reaches for his rain slicker directly behind the driver’s seat and quickly places it over his head pulling it down over his chest.
Hal then flips the hoodie over his head prior to opening the door and steps outside into the storm, slowing walking forward a hundred feet or so from his truck in the emergency lane sweeping his flashlight on both sides of the highway.
The storm begins to increase in intensity, rain, thunder, and flashes of lightning illuminate the scene as Hal feels the wind pushing him backwards as if trying its best to prevent him from walking any further.
Hal stops and simply stares as if partially hypnotized by the sight before him for a few moments before quickly recalling the other trucks, and in particular, cars that he drove past in the last 15 minutes or so that may not have the vantage point he has in his big rig.
Knowing he may only have a few minutes or so to warn other drivers of what they may run into shortly on the highway he starts to jog back to his truck to grab the emergency flares and as he reaches into his pocket to call 911 on his cell phone, he then sees something even more inexplicable.
Hal sees what appear to be streaks of light coming from the sky far above his truck and he freezes in place, forgetting the emergency flares and his interrupted 911 call.
What is Hal witnessing that freezes him in place? Stay tuned for our next post.
